Tell us about your first impressions when you arrived.
The white-washed walls and vaulted ceiling, the graphic tiles on the bar, hanging lanterns, fiddlehead ferns: you could easily be in a chic spot in Condesa. Mexican restaurants in L.A. are rarely this pretty—and rarely this vegan.
What was the crowd like?
The best looking, food-loving, Instagramming vegans in town.
What should we be drinking?
Mezcal is vegan. Once you realize that, it somehow feels virtuous to order from the extensive agave-heavy cocktail list. Go for the house specialty, the Purista, made with reposado tequila and lime and orange bitters, and order it picante. Healthy drinking never tasted this good.
Main event: the food. Give us the lowdown—especially what not to miss.
Some of the tastiest vegan food in a town that does vegan better than most. The best strategy for maximum satisfaction is to order food that’s already primarily vegan without much re-engineering. Think: guacamole, sopes, enchiladas with mole. Sure, the “cheese” is cashew crema, but it’s properly rich and deep in flavor.
And how did the front-of-house folks treat you?
Attractive and professional, and up to the task of selling sexy veganism.
What’s the real-real on why we’re coming here?
If you’re in a healthy-ish mood but want a little glam with your good eating, this is the place to go. Friday at happy hour is a when you can see how healthy Hollywood lets loose.
